Here are a few items for the Portal issue. You may want to supplement this by information from Fely Narvaez and Dina Penaflorida. They may have pictures to go with the article. So here goes:

December, 2013 ; Some members went caroling to raise funds for their end-of-the-year project and raised twelve hundred dollars ($1,200.00), which was later donated to the Silliman University's Continuing Calamity Response Program which had been created to help students made victims of the various calamities in the Philippines, especially in the Eastern Visayas. The amount was presented on March 29, 2014 to President Malayang during the dinner-dance sponsored by the SUCNAAI (Silliman University College of Nursing Alumni Association International).

A Christmas Party for the members was also attended by visitors from the Francis Parker High School who were preparing to visit Dumaguete and Silliman. The guest speaker was David Van Cleve, a published author from First Congregational Church in Ramona, where Dr. and Mrs. Jacinto are members.

One of the affairs attended and enjoyed by members of SUAF was the Christmas program at the Lawrence Welk Resort in San Diego.

SUAF has had "continuing education programs" of various kinds for several months, among which are:

Learning basic EXCEL computer program, which was presented by Frances Yoakem; ball room dancing instruction, with John Olivar's expert guidance; elementary instruction in the Mandarin Language given by Luisa Sy.

During the last week-end of March, we had the pleasure of a visit from President Benn Malayang III and his wife Gladys. Three notable events accompanied that visit:

On Friday, March 29, a Merienda meeting at the home of Louella Dolar and Bill Perrin. Louella (a Ph. D.in Marine Biology) had just returned from Silliman University where she worked with Dr. Angel Alcala In this meeting Dr. Malayang gave a report of developments at Silliman, including changes in curriculum and organization of the entire University from elementary, through high school, college and post-graduate programs, to meet new challenges toward uniform standards in education, not only in the Philippines, but in Asian countries and around the globe. Silliman, he reported, had anticipated these challenges and had begun to implement procedures and even constructional projects to this end, so that Silliman is quite ahead of the others. Dr. Malayang also discussed matters regarding financing the institutions, and new programs and approaches to different projects for school and community. All told, those who were present in this meeting were encouraged and inspired to "work for Dear Old Silliman."
