A Letter of Unity

To my Colleagues and fellow Sillimanians,

I hope that you all had a nice Memorial weekend perhaps by basking under the sun, shopping, or barbecuing in your own backyards with friends, neighbors, or relatives. Since I do have a lot of relatives in the military, I truly feel emotional during Memorial Day. I think about all those lives lost for the sake of freedom and democracy. As a nurse, I think of how fragile life is and how uncertain is the span of our lifetime. I also contemplate on some serious and mundane issues that confront me periodically. Occasionally, I ponder on the kind of legacy that I would like to leave behind when the ebb tide comes. Then my mind becomes focused on our alumni association and how we can truly have a positive impact on peoples' lives either here in this beloved country or on our own native land. I often regard Memorial Day as an event that also heralds the coming of warmer months and greener surroundings. I hope that this event will also bring forth warmer and more meaningful relationships. Hopefully, this is the time to inspire and enable us to rekindle that Silliman spirit that has been inculcated in us for years and etched in the inner most arcana of our hearts and minds.

I would like to encourage you to reveal that true Silliman spirit by taking on some leadership roles in our association. We need you to rejuvenate our association so we could continue to grow and achieve our lofty goals. So, my friends, I would like all of us to form a strong link and bond together so that in unity we can have a common voice and strength.

May God bless us all!

Sincerely,

Amelia Buluran
